Exams

Exam information

Dance exams at Gauteng Dance Studios are more than just a test—they’re a celebration of hard work, growth, and mastery!

Each exam gives dancers the chance to take on a challenging syllabus, hone their skills, and proudly showcase their progress.

Our exams cater to all levels, whether you’re dancing for fun or working towards a career in dance. With each grade, you’ll build on what you’ve learned while adding new skills like musicality, artistry, and technique.

It’s not just about passing—it’s about growing as a dancer and a person. Exams teach dedication, discipline, and respect, qualities that extend far beyond the dance floor.

Gauteng Dance Studios follows the Independent Dance Federation’s (SA) syllabus, the only one in South Africa with a lyrical syllabus, constantly evolving to keep students ahead of the game. We start the year with warm-ups and technique, and from February to May, it’s all about mastering that syllabus! Exams take place in May and June.

And there’s more! Each year, the Independent Dance Federation hosts a Dancer of the Year award where the dancers with the highest scores are celebrated and recognized for their dedication and excellence. So, let’s dance our way to success and shine bright!

Festivals

Festival information

We take part in exciting festivals throughout the year, and Stage Quest is a key highlight for all dancers at Gauteng Dance Studios. This festival is a compulsory event where our dancers get to shine in a wide range of styles—whether solo, duet, trio, or group—competing with passion and creativity alongside other top dance schools. It’s a fantastic opportunity to showcase their skills and gain invaluable stage time.

At Stage Quest, our dancers are up against other talented schools, giving them the chance to experience the thrill of performance in a professional setting. This is where they build confidence, stage presence, and resilience, while also learning how to handle the pressure of competition. It’s more than just a performance; it’s a rite of passage that teaches our dancers the value of hard work, discipline, and teamwork.

In addition to Stage Quest, we offer a range of other optional festivals for our dancers to further explore their talents. These festivals provide additional opportunities to perform, broaden their dance experience, and challenge themselves in new and exciting ways.

With our choreography, individual costumes, and dedicated dressmakers working to create stunning designs, we ensure that every dancer feels special and unforgettable on stage. Performing at these festivals is an essential part of growing as a dancer—gaining experience, building confidence, and celebrating the joy of dance in front of an audience, a stepping stone towards dancing in competitions or professional shows. It’s a memory they’ll carry with them forever!
